About Us

Hip Hop Matters Magazine

finds its roots in Zim Digital's college years at
Bright Point Community College; formerly known as
John Tyler University, during the pursuit of an
Associate Degree in Visual Arts.

The goal was to create a platform for artists
to showcase their work while
fostering a vibrant
community through a unique rating system. Audiences

could provide live critiques of artists' music and music
videos on the show.
However, to entice people to
join this cause, we needed something compelling.

In 2013, the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement
drew attention to
social injustices. Hip Hop Matters draws
its name and inspiration from this
activism, resonating
within the Hip Hop and Arts community.
Initially a
Visual Arts Project in college, the project expanded,
evolving
into a platform that engaged artists and their
audiences.
As artists embraced the platform,
it grew exponentially, eventually
broadcasting on
Facebook for three years, leading to the emergence of

the Zim Digital brand.

From 2016 to 2019, Hip Hop Matters Magazine
conducted interviews of artists
internationally,
and aided them in reaching wider audiences—
all at no cost.

In 2020, Hip Hop Matters Magazine LLC became a
reality, although the
initial launch was delayed: due to
many new
technological advancements, which
aided in the
reimaging of the live show.

The return to the live show has been a challenging,
yet rewarding journey.

Today, the website's launch signifies a shift to a
more
efficient approach, marking a new chapter for
Hip Hop Matters Magazine. Power to the Artists.

Why? Because... Hip Hop Matters!
